Computer Technology Exploratory

The purpose of this exploratory is to give each student an appreciation for computer technology and its influence on society.  The following is an outline of what I expect we will do during this exploratory.

Day 1:  Introduction to exploratory course.  Why everyone will have a career in technology.

Day 2:  Enhancing your school work with graphs and charts using Microsoft Excel.

Day 3:  History of Technology / Technology timeline.

Day 4:  Personal Computer Video.

Day 5:  Internal workings of a personal computer.

Day 6:  The language of computers - binary code.

Day 7:  Origins of the Internet video.

Day 8:  More Internet.

Day 9:  Technology and Law Enforcement with guest speaker from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.  See special information below.

Day 10:  Introduction to BASIC programming.

Day 11:  BASIC programming.

Day 12:  BASIC programming.

The computer technology exploratory students would like to give extra special thanks to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office who took time out of their busy schedule to give us a presentation on law enforcement technology.  The Sheriff explained and demonstrated many advances in law enforcement technology such as police communications equipment, non-lethal defense equipment, radar and laser radar, evidence gathering techniques as well as the county criminal database.

One very important point to remember - when a student asked an officer what he felt his most powerful weapon was, he responded, "My voice.  I would rather talk my way out of a situation or talk someone out of a situation than have to resort to any type of force."

Something to think about this summer.
